Blue Force Gear designed the Split-Front (SF) Chest Rig to address the challenges faced during reconnaissance operations. Military reconnaissance (recce for short) involves gathering intelligence about enemy forces. This may include observing terrain, movement patterns, capability, and other strategic information. Recce operations may include aerial surveillance, satellite imagery, and covert ground observation. 

For those with boots on the ground performing recce operations, they are often required to lay prone for extended periods. This can be quite impractical with gear mounted on the front of a plate carrier or chest rig, and so the Split-Front Chest Rig design was born. With a split front, operators are able to easily unzip the chest rig and spread it open to a more comfortable and sustainable position.  

Lighten the Load®

As with anything made by Blue Force Gear, every detail is thoroughly considered. The split chest rig unzips top-to-bottom so that it’s easy to don and doff in any conditions and while wearing gear. This feature also prevents the tactical chest rig from opening by mistake while low crawling. Side-release buckles make it easy to completely detach the front of the chest rig for integration with some third-party plate carriers and hydration harnesses. 

The SF Chest Rig is adjustable enough to be worn over a plate carrier or can simply be worn by itself. The magazine pouches are integrated into the design which significantly lowers the cost of a chest rig setup. The front of the chest rig features four stackable mag pouches that have 6-row, single-column MOLLEminus fields on each pouch. These MOLLE fields make it easy to add the BFG Low Profile General Purpose Pouch (designed specifically for this chest rig), pistol pouches, or other  MOLLE pouches and accessories. It can be worn as a minimalist chest rig or fully kitted for longer missions.
