Which Sling Attachment Should I Choose?
Always Better® | May 15th, 2025
Whether you’ve selected a Vickers Sling, a GMT Sling, or another world-class rifle sling, you’ve got to decide on the optimal way to attach it to your firearm. Blue Force Gear offers a wide variety of sling hardware to accommodate just about every platform.
Push Button QD Sling Swivel
The Push Button QD Sling Swivel is probably the best-known way to attach a sling to a rifle. Many rifles come standard with QD sockets built into the rail or buttstock because it’s such a simple and common way to attach slings. The male end of a Push Button will fit into the female end socket with a secure “click” as the tiny ball joints engage. To release, simply push the button on the swivel body to disengage the action and then pull the swivel out of the socket.
RED™ Swivel
The RED (Rapid Emergency Detachment) Swivel is a push button swivel that is installed and removed by pulling on the emergency release knob. Even though the Push Button is a “quick release,” the common QD swivel is not an emergency release because fine motor skills are required and when under stress/in the cold/wearing gloves it just may not be practical. The Patented RED Swivel only needs 7 pounds of force to install or release the swivel, however accidental release is minimized by the knob shape and angle required (it must be pulled straight out) to remove the swivel.
Universal Wire Loop™
Probably the favorite sling attachment of the Blue Force Gear team is the Universal Wire Loop (UWL). The UWL has a flexible nylon coated stainless steel wire that allows for a sling attachment by girth-hitching the wire through eyelets, loops, slots, or any other opening that the wire fits through. Have a Mosin Nagant, MP5, or AK? The UWL is what you want to attach a quality sling to a non-standard rifle. For different applications and ultimate versatility, it comes in a 3.25” or 6.25” loop length.
ULoop™
Wow – another favorite! The Patented ULoop is a force to be reckoned with. It is a quick detach version of the BFG Universal Wire Loop but offers even faster and easier installation, especially on smaller eyelets found on AK, HK, SIG, and FN weapons. Like the UWL, the ULoop can be installed almost anywhere - through eyelets, holes in railed handguards, and on KeyMod rails. There’s no need to have multiple sling attachments. The ULoop replaces all hooks, clips, and connections. The UWL requires that you attach it to the platform and then thread the sling through the slot but with the ULoop, you can leave the sling affixed when detaching or reattaching to your rifle. Watch this video to learn more about the ULoop.
Molded UWL™
If you haven’t picked up on it yet, BFG is a big fan of the nylon coated stainless steel wire loops for attaching slings. There is a Molded Universal Wire. The Molded Universal Wire Loop has a QD socket in the body to allow the attachment of a push button. This could give you a QD socket just about anywhere on some of those odd guns.
Other Sling Hardware Offerings
Because Blue Force Gear sells the world’s standard in weapon slings, we like to have just about every sling attachment possibly easily accessible on our website. The Belt Fed Loop (BFL) offers the same attachment versatility of the UWL but you can keep the sling affixed even when removing or attaching the BFL to the rifle.
The Sling Snap Hook is the ultimate budget-friendly solution for securely attaching your sling to H&Ks, SCARs, SIGs, and more. The Sling Snap Hook simply clips on to eyelets or loops to provide a durable attachment.
Another option is the MASH Hook. MASH Hooks are an excellent alternative to HK Hooks and provide a secure and fast sling connection for weapons with larger eyelets such as AKs. The MASH Hook is activated by squeezing the center tabs together which opens the gate for installation and removal from eyelets. If you select either of these options, also grab an Elastic Hook Cover to minimize the noise and protect the weapon finish because both options tend to “eat away” at the more delicate rifle construction. (But allow us to borrow a line from industry friend Chris Sizelove and be the “honest broker” – the UWL is a superior attachment for weapons with eyelets, loops, etc. Treat yourself to the best.)
The right sling attachment ultimately comes down to your specific platform and how you use it. Push Button QDs and REW Swivels offer standard convenience and the ability to remove a sling quickly while Universal Wire Loops provide the most versatility across non-standard rifles. Whatever your requirements, take time to match your hardware choice to your specific weapon system for optimal performance.
